Butter Orange Cookies

Long time no baking post already, so here's one, which I baked last weekend. There were two oranges in the fridge. A big chunk of butter and miserable very little icing sugar left.

So, what else? Butter cookies! The 1,2,3 recipe. Yay! 100g sugar+200g butter+300g flour makes the best melt-in-the-mouth butter cookies recipe! Oh and zest from approximately 1.5 oranges. Optional, but my cookies, my sukak, my like! That's all you need, really! But makesure you use good quality butter, baru "heong" (fragrant). I used Emborg, if you want to know.

I mixed all ingredients with my hand. Rolled them into balls. Pressed down some patterns with a fork.

Baked at 180 degrees for about 25 minutes. These was the first batch.

Then second batch. Something wrong with the lighting?

This recipe makes about 50 pieces cookies. If you have a bigger oven and also the time, you can shape it smaller (then bake in 2 batches), and you will have > 50 pieces.

Not self praising, but hubby ate >10 pieces the moment I took them out from the oven. If hubby eats my cookies, means those are good I tell you. He doesn't like sweet stuffs like cookies/cakes, and normally won't touch more than 2 pieces nomatter how hard I begged. But this time, wow. Really, I was like, wow.

WOW!

  1. Morning Louiz! Hey, your cookies look good. I mean the shape is quite consistent and the fork pattern thing is nice. Also I can see the orange zest. Sure very heong (fragrant, is that the right word?) especially when just come out from the oven. Sure sedap giler with Emborg butter and orange zest! I have not baked cookies in a while. Itchy fingers now!

  4. of course your like you sukak mah, you were baking for yourself only.. not baked an then PosLaju dijamin sampai esok for me wat, else i have rights to request this and request that also right?? hahahaha.. but then successful woh, your hubby who doesn't like sweet stuffs also popped in >10 pieces at one go.. errr, you were too busy baking and didn't cook dinner for him, so he was starving is it?? hehe.. so your hubby ate almost 20% of the cookies, what about your K and G?? did they touch any?? where were the remaining 80%??

but looked good woh your cookies.. i mean the shape and texture, though the size were not even but then after stacking them up for photos, they looked nice lor, the fork pattern did the trick perhaps?? wah, if you had chocolate chips lagi better hor?? can have chocolate chips orange butter cookies, i always like the combination of chocolate and orange ge woh, dunno why lor.. maybe they are just perfect match lah.. the rich chocolatey taste with a hint of the orange zest, nice right??

i must remember this 123 golden recipe from Princess Ribbon, next time if i am baking or mimicking to bake, i will have to do this, muahahaha!! or maybe just curi your photos enough and say i baked them!! :D

    1. For a start, you may omit the orange zest since you need a bit of work peeling the skin and chopping it into fine pieces, unless you have a proper grater.. Then you can have pure butter cookies..

    1. Same here.. I don't really like oranges coz I'm sensitive to citrus fruits.. Anything citrusy touches my mouth, I will have red patches around my mouth area..

    1. Darling, I just used the zest.. No orange juice, else it will be too wet consistency to roll into cookie balls.. But yes, I think some amount of orange juice makes no harm.. Please post about simple baking (I really mean simple) in your next post ok.. Or please think of something lazy cooking for smart working mothers.. Can ahh?

This looks good, but I've never had orange in my cookies before. I'm not a huge fan of oranges but it sounds interesting enough to try!

    1. Actually I'd wanted to make butter cookies.. But since I have some oranges in the fridge, I just incorporated some zest into it.. You can add chocolate chips inside if you don't like orange zest.. But either one, yummmzzz... Haha..

    2. Nice! I prefer orange zest since I've had chocolate chip butter cookies before but never orange butter cookies and it sounds like the acidity will go well with the butter. Cheers for sharing! :)
