DIY Placenta Encapsulation

Hello readers! Ha, I know, the title sounds interesting, yes?

Yup, gonna share with you guys how I encapsulated (and consume) my own placenta. Google it, many mothers have done it, for a fee, but I did it on my own - for free. Ok, hubby helped to do it actually.

I'm sharing this to show that this is do-able. For readers who want to do this after birth, you can do on your own at home too ya.

After the doctor birthed my placenta, hubby put it into the ice box, took it home, cleaned it, and put it into the freezer. No time to do it on the same day, and he only had time to do it two weeks later.

Not gonna show you how the whole thawed placenta looks like, scared you all faint, haha. But the first step is thaw the placenta, then steam it for about 20-25 minutes.

Then cut into small chunks, like below.

Set the oven to the lowest temperature, mine around 100 degrees, and 'bake' to dehydrate it, but be careful not to burn it. Make sure they turn hard (and dehydrate completely). After 5 hours baking, this is how it looks like.

Blend into powder.

Now, it looks like this.

Now, go buy some empty capsules from the pharmacy, and encapsulate them.

Benefits of placenta encapsulation: Wounds heal faster, more energetic, produce more breast milk, lessen post partum depression. How true is it? Well, I took two capsules in the morning and I stayed up all night, eyes big big. Too energetic?

  1. OMG!! I am reading this at 1.00 am and will be shocked awake now without taking any capsules.
I heard of sheep placenta being sold to ladies who wanna stay young and look pretty faced. First time I hear a mummy eating her own parts. Muahaha
Please continue to update the progress of this wonderful consumption ok. I am sure many readers would benefit from this sharing.

    Ok good night. Bye

    1. Jeng jeng jeng.. Ok frankly, I dont have abundant breast milk, and on off, I still feel a bit 'sad' and 'depressed' (dont worry, not serious, I can control).. But about the energetic and fast healing, yes, coz I didnt feel pain already, can squat already, haha..

  2. Eyewwwwwwww!!!!! I saw some once when I opened something wrapped in paper - my Kuching landlady's. She said she kept all the grandchildren's placenta together so they would forever be very close to one another.

    1. Ooooo how she kept it? In powder form? I only got to know about placenta encapsulation last year, many mamas have done it, outside people are doing it for RM800..

  3. Er, I am not sure I would consume my own placenta or not. Haha. I understand we Chinese does not bring back placenta from hospital unlike Malays.

I heard of the benefit of placenta both in medicinal, beauty etc but I have never try it.

Wow! Very energetic huh?? Good for you.

  4. I have heard of this, consuming of one's placenta. It sounded weird to me but it looks like it is quite widely practiced. Since it has benefits, then you are doing the right thing.

  9. Well... sh*t!! Thanks for making me awake with shock without needing coffee on a Monday! I've seen people consume placenta, but never their own placenta! But seems like it works for you. If two pills make you too energetic, just take one lo. Then can last longer...

  12. hmmm, this is really something new to me leh.. i have heard of consuming sheep placenta but this is the first time i heard, as well as see, people consuming human placenta.. and you put the title Encapsulation, i have no idea at all that this is all about consuming until the end of the post!! i thought it's some medical terms you do something to it, hahahaha..

anyway, thanks for sharing ya, this is surely an eye-opener for me.. and yiks!! the placenta actually looks eerie and luckily you ground them into powder and put into pills.. if you are going to tell me that you just eat those chunky placenta like steaks, i am most probably going to puke!! hehehe.. powder in pills is way better and more comfortable i guess..

i wonder how it tastes and smells like?? got very fishy or not?? so how frequent you take the pills?? any expiry dates??

    ReplyDelete

    1. It tastes, smells and looks like liver. No fishy. 1 day 1 biji or 2 biji, but since it's so precious, just 1 biji. No expiry dates, but must put in fridge. If put in freezer, I read it can last a few years.

  13. That's so amazing!!!

I find this all very interesting. I thought you substituted a meat like pork as an example, I didn't realize that the meat was the placenta until I read the part where you ground it into powder for capsules.

That's so interesting...human placenta actually looks like pork after it's baked. How strange!

I would love to try to eat it too, maybe not cook it, just eat it like that. I will have to wait till any babie(s) come along in the future though, if my better half doesn't want to eat the placenta, I will. Sounds quite fun.

    1. I dont think you can eat it raw, covered with blood, cord & membranes, smells fishy too. You still gotta steam it before consuming, me think..

  14. Very enlightening! Thanks for sharing.

You know if this is supposed to be good for health, confinement period is the best time for the body to absorb any goodness from food - that's what I heard - that's when the weakened body needs the nutrients most. After confinement, absorption is not so effective anymore.

Kudos to your husband for being so supportive and hands-on.

    Happy confinement, Princess!

  15. It's good that we can DIY! I thought of doing this before I gave birth to Toby, found an online shop which do this, too bad it's based on KL, they don't collect here, so end up I din't book them.

But since we can DIY, I can consider doing it next time, hehehe!

    1. Oh yes sweetie, you can do it yourself.. Lots of work especially cleaning it, but worth it kua.. Yup, the online shop is doing it for RM600-800, may as well we do it ourselves. They use de-hydrater I think, but I just make-do with my loyal old big chunky oven..
