Don't expect to see restaurant's style of mac&cheese. And don't compare. It's my version of (very) simple and fast milky-eggy mac&cheese, ready in 10 minutes!
It was 7pm and Kz wanted macaroni. What? Macaroni? I got no soup in the fridge.
I don't have chicken cubes at home. It's MSG anyway. Not good. So how to make macaroni (without soup) in the shortest time? Ok, no soup. How about oriental style fried macaroni? Nope, too late to thaw minced meat and mixed vegetables (from the freezer), too lazy to chop garlic or shallots, soak and wash and chop brocolli, mushrooms and all (and puh-leese, the portion is just for Kz alone, you want me to do all that?).

So, I took the shortest way out. I boiled some macaroni with 2 beef balls and 1 seafood tofu (nothing can go wrong with assorted balls). Once soft, I drained the water, added a cup of milk, one slice of cheese, wee bit of salt (I really mean wee bit) and cracked an egg. So now we have mac & cheese with egg.
I was praying that Kz would shut up and eat up. Surprisingly, he did both, and gave thumbs up too! He said "Hmmm, good!". Kz left what was below. So was it good? You bet. Not self praising, but if this brat says good, means that something is good.
Looks good to me
ReplyDeleteMine also no restaurant style, no presentation.
Same here, I cook simple food only, not expert, no presentation too.. As long as the kids eat it, hehe..
DeleteHi 5, mine also simple food, too complicated, i peng san...
DeleteAs long as it's nice, nothing else matters. Why should anyone follow standard recipes? Everyone should be creative and innovative...even in cooking. Who are those culinary snobs and gourmets, anyway? Not world-class chefs, not Michelin standard as well, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteAgree, I always take the short cut, use whatever in the fridge, and try to whip up something simple..
DeleteWah ... not bad. Last minute can think of such solution. Anyway , try to stock up some macaroni since kz loves it.
ReplyDeleteYep, last minute.. No soup, raining cats & dogs, can't go out tapao, so the only no-soup macaroni would be dry mac&cheese lor..
Deleteerrr, i think as long as your K eats the thing you cook, doesn't matter whether it looks nice or not, doesn't matter it taste nice or not also lah.. he probably likes milk and cheese and anything with milk and cheese he will love.. very simple lah, stock up those mac and cheese in your kitchen lah, and whenever he wants to eat something, cook that for him, he seems to like this woh..
ReplyDeleteYep, you are very observant.. He likes anything whipped up from milk and cheese, hehe..
DeleteYour son and I have same taste! Anything creamy, milky and sweet makes me happy.
Deleteand that's the fun of being in the kitchen lah.. just cook whatever comes to your mind and do it to your heart, use what you have in the fridge and what you can find in the kitchen.. as i always like to say, cooking is an art and not science, so don't need those exact ingredients and precise measurement lah.. all agak-agak according to your heart can already mah.. and whether look nice, i guess it also depends on the presentation mah.. and whether taste nice, it also depends on how the one eating appreciate your cooking mah.. agree??
ReplyDeleteIt was not fun that day.. It was raining cats & dogs, hubby has to work late, I picked up Kz myself after 2 hours jam stuck on the road leh..
DeleteAs long as it tastes good and Kenzie eats it, considered very good already! So, since he left behind some macaroni, did you finish it up?
ReplyDeleteOh ya, I ate his leftovers before washing the bowl, hehe.. Sik tak mou sai ma..
DeleteBrilliant idea Louiz
ReplyDeleteCincai idea only, sweetie..
DeleteI alkways say if my son loves it Im very happy already
ReplyDeleteOh yes, if Kz eats, then I am very happy already.. You should know by now Kz is a fussy eater, and skinny boy too..
DeleteMy hubby pula the other way round. If he complains...then no good lor. In the other way, just eat and eat and say no good... then I know is good! Muahaha....always say opposite way
ReplyDeleteHubby is a cincai person too.. He eats anything.. Even if it's just white rice with soy sauce and fried egg.. But when he opens his mouth and says it's not good, means that something is really wrong and can go to the bin, sobs..
Deletethat's how we used to make quick mac & cheese, too! milk, macaroni, load on cheese & microwave! lol. sometimes if there's a campbell's can of mushroom soup, mom would use that, too. (((: i miss this! gonna make it :D
ReplyDeleteI don't have a microwave, if I have, I'd do the same thing too, regardless of what people say about radiation and all.. Oh yes, I stock up on Campbell cream soups, you name it - seafood chowder, pottage, tomato, oxtail, chicken..
DeleteHello mummy Ribbon! Friday! Hope you're in a good mood today! ;)
ReplyDeleteEh, seems like your kids are pretty easy to please ma!!
DeleteLooks yummy, really.
As a busy mum, the happiest thing on earth is probably to see our kids finish eating what we have prepared for them, even just a simple meal!
Kz not really easy also esp when it comes to food.. But when there are assorted balls (and some bribes after that) that would do the trick :)
DeleteAs long as your boy eats it, ugly or not the food presentation, it does not matter. :p You did a good job cooking for your boys.
ReplyDeleteyes, as long as our kids love the food that we cooked, it's already satisfying.
ReplyDeleteKz is such a sophisticated kid. When I was his age I don't even know what macaroni is. You are really good at coming up with tasty food with what you have. Your brain really work fast. Well done mommy, kz likes the food!
ReplyDeleteHe said Good cos this is one unique recipe and his mom made it Just for him!!! Thumbs UP!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to cook something like this before, but don't know how it goes already...it was too long time ago, hehe!!!
ReplyDeleteThe last picture cracked me up. Psst.. next time, I think you can leave out the mac. haha..
ReplyDeleteA+ for a mother's wizardry where pleasing a child's food whim is concerned. Kudos!
U r very good to come up with ad-hoc recipe. Look delicious to me but my kids will never like it coz they never like MILK !
