Japanese Potato Salad

First thing my colleague said was "Looks like fried rice" when I showed him the picture yesterday. And first thing another colleague said justnow was "Nasi ayam" when he saw this photo just a few minutes ago.

LOL, it's not nasi ayam la, it's my delicious Japanese potato salad.

Pasta Zanmai serves similar stuff at RM7.90 per scoop. Crazy. I tell myself may as well learn and make my own. So I googled how to make Japanese potato salad. Looks easy, and I have all the ingredients.

Just one thing - lots of chopping to do.

The ingredients are simple - potatoes, eggs, cucumber, carrots, red onion and Japanese mayo (Kewpie). Boil eggs and potatoes, mash them up, chop the remaining ingredients, and mix everything with Kewpie mayo.

And there, Japanese potato salad, no need to pay RM7.90 for a scoop to eat in restaurant already.

Out of topic, I bought this banana walnut muffin from the kedai runcit yesterday, the lady boss said just arrived, new product. When I took a bite, errr, banana essence got la, real bananas don't have. RM1.50 per piece. Can try though.

Ok, bye!

  1. Japanese? I so love the one at our favourite Japanese restaurant here. Gotta look for the Japanese mayo now - we have a few places here selling those Japanese products, but they do not come cheap though. :(

  2. Louiz, I love Japanese Potato Salad! But I have not tried making it myself. Wah, so expensive, RM7.90 per scoop? How big is the scoop? I noticed from the Japanese restaurant that I go to, they boil their carrots until soft. Quite nice also like that. Eh, I like your bowl. Hello Kitty, right? Anyway, I am happy to see a post from you today :)

  4. I like potato salad leh, way more than mashed potatoes.. because in potato salad, you will have bits of the crunchy cucumber and carrot which I think enhance the flavor as well as the texture.. and I actually also like the potatoes to be chunky a bit than to be too mashed up la.. eih, got eggs one meh?? I think those we buy from outside no eggs lah, so good meh sell you RM7.90 one small scoop still give you egg ah?? right?? so like you, make at home la, RM7.90 can have one whole ice-cream tub of it leh..

    1. House no bacon, so have to make-do without.. Internet teach put ham and a handful of corn, but house ho ham and corn also, and I don't want to purposely buy a pack of frozen corn just to make this ma.. So, just buat apa yang ada lor..

  8. I like your bowl of potato salad too. I always love salad, be it veggie salad or fruit salad. Looking at the ingredients, all are my liking. I only afraid of the calories content in mayo.

  14. Good for you to look up how to make this and prepare this at home, no need to eat out for this. So the carrot is eaten raw too after chopping it up and mixing it into the mashed potatoes and eggs?

    1. Internet suggests chopping the carrots, add some water and microwave at high under 1 minute, but I dont have a microwave, so I boiled the carrots for 1 minute..
