Long time no baking post already, so here's one, which I baked last weekend. There were two oranges in the fridge. A big chunk of butter and miserable very little icing sugar left.
So, what else? Butter cookies! The 1,2,3 recipe. Yay! 100g sugar+200g butter+300g flour makes the best melt-in-the-mouth butter cookies recipe! Oh and zest from approximately 1.5 oranges. Optional, but my cookies, my sukak, my like! That's all you need, really! But makesure you use good quality butter, baru "heong" (fragrant). I used Emborg, if you want to know.
I mixed all ingredients with my hand. Rolled them into balls. Pressed down some patterns with a fork.
Baked at 180 degrees for about 25 minutes. These was the first batch.
Then second batch. Something wrong with the lighting?
This recipe makes about 50 pieces cookies. If you have a bigger oven and also the time, you can shape it smaller (then bake in 2 batches), and you will have > 50 pieces.
Not self praising, but hubby ate >10 pieces the moment I took them out from the oven. If hubby eats my cookies, means those are good I tell you. He doesn't like sweet stuffs like cookies/cakes, and normally won't touch more than 2 pieces nomatter how hard I begged. But this time, wow. Really, I was like, wow.
WOW!
Morning Louiz! Hey, your cookies look good. I mean the shape is quite consistent and the fork pattern thing is nice. Also I can see the orange zest. Sure very heong (fragrant, is that the right word?) especially when just come out from the oven. Sure sedap giler with Emborg butter and orange zest! I have not baked cookies in a while. Itchy fingers now!
ReplyDeleteMorning Phong Hong.. Yeah, if lazy, then no need to use the fork pun.. Just press down with your palm will do.. Oh yes, Emborg butter rocks!
DeleteThanks for the recipe. I saw Yee Ling making something similar earlier of this year.
ReplyDeleteLooks similiar coz use the fork and press down the pattern all the same kot..
DeleteBut the ingredients I think different kot..
Hey your cookies very even leh. same size all. Me like.
ReplyDeleteRoll into balls using hand only wor.. Agak agak lor in the size.. Ambil secubit, lepas tuh, roll into balls..
Deleteof course your like you sukak mah, you were baking for yourself only.. not baked an then PosLaju dijamin sampai esok for me wat, else i have rights to request this and request that also right?? hahahaha.. but then successful woh, your hubby who doesn't like sweet stuffs also popped in >10 pieces at one go.. errr, you were too busy baking and didn't cook dinner for him, so he was starving is it?? hehe.. so your hubby ate almost 20% of the cookies, what about your K and G?? did they touch any?? where were the remaining 80%??
ReplyDeletebut looked good woh your cookies.. i mean the shape and texture, though the size were not even but then after stacking them up for photos, they looked nice lor, the fork pattern did the trick perhaps?? wah, if you had chocolate chips lagi better hor?? can have chocolate chips orange butter cookies, i always like the combination of chocolate and orange ge woh, dunno why lor.. maybe they are just perfect match lah.. the rich chocolatey taste with a hint of the orange zest, nice right??
i must remember this 123 golden recipe from Princess Ribbon, next time if i am baking or mimicking to bake, i will have to do this, muahahaha!! or maybe just curi your photos enough and say i baked them!! :D
Oh yes, you must remember! This one's a keeper.. I refused to belif it's so easy, but it's really this easy! 1+2+3, kautim!
Deletewow, simply delicious looking..
ReplyDeleteNot self praising, but yeah, quite nice, hehe..
DeleteI brought half to the office for colleagues, all gone.. Hehe..
Dijamin sampai hari esok? Wink! Wink! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha, by the time it reaches Sibu, all crushed and bye to the cruel world liao..
DeleteThey are all melt-in-the-mouth and easy to crush neh...
You are like butter already when your hubby likes them!! hahahaa.. can feel you melting and yet you taste so good and nice to him! Good job there, Louiz.. one FINE day I might try your simple recipe too! See if any of my love ones melt or not... hehehe..
ReplyDeleteWhen you are free, you can try la.. It's so easy only wor.. Emborg brand butter already packaged in size 200g, so you don't have to measure and cut away the butter..
DeleteWow, must be very tasty since your husband gasak so many at one go. Did you let your boys eat these cookies too?
ReplyDeleteYep, Kz ate 1 piece, but he didn't like it coz it has oranges in it.. He hates oranges..
DeleteI want to try your orange cookies too! Looks yummy!!
ReplyDeleteFor a start, you may omit the orange zest since you need a bit of work peeling the skin and chopping it into fine pieces, unless you have a proper grater.. Then you can have pure butter cookies..
DeleteEllo ello!
ReplyDeleteMe too, long time no baking already, sigh.. I guess I am slowly losing the mojo, again :(
Anyway, I prefer cakes than cookies, but one thing good about baking cookies is they can be kept for some times....
DeleteAs for cakes, cannot keep too long...
Your cookies look good, really de, must be very crispy..
Elo elo.. Yau mou? You long time no baking? I just saw your post on baking about last month wor.. For mother's day, something like that..Yep same with me, I like baking cakes, no need to wait in batches and roll into balls one by one, but then, cookies can keep longer neh.. Nope, gonna be frank, the cookies are not very crispy, they are melt-in-the-mouth.. You must try to know, haha..
DeleteWow! Wow! Wow! Your hubby ate so many pieces at one go. He must be hungry lah.....
ReplyDeleteWhy you didn't snap photo of him eating happily? I see start to end all cookies only....
I want to learn to bake so that next CNY I will give away to friends!
Aiya, his face not handsome, what for wana snap his photos? Hehehe.. Plus, he's not wearing clothes at home, walking around naked, paiseh la..
DeleteYour bookies looked perfect and neat like those Danish butter Cookies! You just need to recycle the Danish old tins and put your cookies inside! I love orange fragrant cakes but never tried cookies!
ReplyDeleteWhat about your 2 handsome boys? Did they eat a lot?
Kz ate some, but he hates oranges, so you should know the answer..
DeleteG is too young to have these, heaty ma..
At first i thought it is German Cookies which is quite famous among baking bloggers....
ReplyDeleteOh I saw German cookies too from FB.. The pattern are more or less the same, coz they use a fork and press down the pattern ma..
DeleteYour cookies makes me craving for it, hehe...
ReplyDeleteIf I have cravings for butter cookies, if I can't wait til weekend to bake it, normally I will go buy the danish butter cookies - Keldjens brand..
DeleteFeel good to have someone appreciate your baking. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the cookies look good myself.
Yeah, you are right.. Normally if I bake, hubby only one or two pieces.. I won't be demotivated la, coz I know he memang doesn't like desserts.. But these cookies, *ahem*, he sapu pulak..
DeleteLook so yummy leh, feel like want to try some duh!!! =]
ReplyDeleteXiao Ying, you can bake la.. Then post about it ok.. Enuff about ballons and cards and exhibitions and travelling for a while.. Time to post something about cooking and baking, can ahh?
DeleteWah ..I like anything orange except the fruit itself !
ReplyDeleteSame here.. I don't really like oranges coz I'm sensitive to citrus fruits.. Anything citrusy touches my mouth, I will have red patches around my mouth area..
DeleteOrange cookies sound nice to me. But make sure the orange is sweet and not sourish or bitter taste lor... than ruin the biscuit taste already....
ReplyDeleteDarling, I just used the zest.. No orange juice, else it will be too wet consistency to roll into cookie balls.. But yes, I think some amount of orange juice makes no harm.. Please post about simple baking (I really mean simple) in your next post ok.. Or please think of something lazy cooking for smart working mothers.. Can ahh?
DeleteLouiz, I miss you....
ReplyDeleteI miss you too, no, two, and three and four !!!
DeleteI'm starting to miss your son too, he looks like Bosco, I love him..
OMG, I sound like goldfish lady aka pintai por..
muahaha....dear can you send me your mailing address to me at angeline_ong81@yahoo.com....
DeleteNice! It's been a while since I've had cookies! :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks good, but I've never had orange in my cookies before. I'm not a huge fan of oranges but it sounds interesting enough to try!
Actually I'd wanted to make butter cookies.. But since I have some oranges in the fridge, I just incorporated some zest into it.. You can add chocolate chips inside if you don't like orange zest.. But either one, yummmzzz... Haha..
DeleteNice! I prefer orange zest since I've had chocolate chip butter cookies before but never orange butter cookies and it sounds like the acidity will go well with the butter. Cheers for sharing! :)
